Travel Couple Shares Their Favorite Romantic Spots in Greece

Angelina Argyrou and Antonis Antoniou, better known as @angelinaandantonis on Instagram, share their best tips for romantic trips in Greece, just in time for Valentine's Day.

Once upon a time, on a hot summer afternoon at the beach, Angelina, a classical dance teacher from Limassol, Cyprus, met Antonis, a digital marketer from Athens. As they fell in love, they began traveling, since it was, as they describe it, their only way to be together. Like in many a modern love story, distance didn’t just make their hearts grow fonder for each other, but also for travel. They opened an Instagram account (@angelinaandantonis), bought a camera, and haven’t put it down since.

Since last year, creating travel content, in their signature romantic style, is their main occupation. Here they share their favorite photos from around Greece, and some tips for couples planning a Valentine’s getaway.

Your Instagram feed is among the most romantic ones we’ve seen. What are the most romantic places you’ve visited in Greece?

Some really great ones are the Tabakaria neighborhood in Hania, on Crete, the alleys of Corfu’s Old Town, known as “kantounia”, Little Venice in Mykonos’ Chora, and, in Athens, the Plaka neighborhood and our newest favorite –  especially during sunset – Areopagus Hill.

And your favorite Greek destination overall?

That’s a terribly difficult question. We have so many favorites, each for different reasons. But if we have to choose only one, it would have to be Corfu.

The historical old town with the kantounia, the crystal-clear turquoise waters, the “Bali” style beaches, the caves, the restaurants, the villages, the views and the fortresses are some of the reasons why Corfu is one of our all-time favorite Greek destinations.

Having said that, we also have to mention Athens. For us, it’s like the capital of Europe. We’re in love with the vibes of the city, the classical landmarks, the museums, the theaters and the many experiences this huge city offers.

You seem to find charming corners to be alone for your photo shoots, even at some of the busiest tourist destinations. How do you do it?

Usually, by waking up at five in the morning. This may sound hard and tiring, and it’s probably not for everyone. But honestly, besides getting to be alone in your photos, in the end you also get to enjoy the magic of having the whole place to yourself.

Sometimes, of course, that’s not enough. For example, when we visited Hania this past summer, we didn’t expect that the old Venetian port would be full of suppliers – vans and people stocking their restaurants for later. We had to get creative with framing and set the camera to keep shooting automatically so we could capture a shot without anyone passing by, but in the end, we got our perfect romantic bench photo in front of the Yali Mosque!

What’s still on your bucket list?

We want to see so many places that we make a bucket list for every year. This list is divided into two sections: one dedicated to Greece, and the other for the rest of the world. Now you can see how much we love Greece! For 2022 our Greece section includes Ios, Chios, Kefalonia and Metsovo. Our worldwide section includes Malta, Abu Dhabi, Oman and Ibiza.

What are your Valentine’s Day plans, and do you have any tips for couples planning a Valentine’s getaway in Greece?

We spend so many days away from home that we’re considering celebrating in a cozier way this time, perhaps with dinner and a movie, just us and our husky fur baby, or maybe with a bubble bath and a glass of wine. But normally we would definitely suggest a romantic getaway to any Greek island. Now that it’s “low-season”, there’s no better time to book a ferry and enjoy the peace and calmness that the Greek islands can offer. Aegina, Hydra or Thasos would be wonderful. If only we were in Greece during Valentine’s Day!
