Greek tourism bid farewell to 2015 with a smile after clocking up more than 15.5 million international travelers arriving in the country.
Compared with 2014, international arrivals at the country’s airports showed an overall increase of 5.7% which translates to 843,000 more passengers.
 
Athens leads the way according to data from the city’s airport Eleftherios Venizelos, not only remaining a popular destination but with numbers of arrivals rising constantly. An indication of this is that year on year arrivals for December 2015 showed an increase of 15.5% compared to the previous year. Overall, arrivals in the Greek capital increased by 22.6% compared to 2014.
There were 15% more travelers to the Cyclades and 3.7% more to the Ionian Islands, as well as increased arrivals in Crete.
The data was recorded at the country’s main airports by the Association of Greek Tourism Enterprises (SETE).
