What defines a street as “cool”? According to Time Out, it’s a vibrant mix of eateries, bars, and cafés, along with quirky shops offering unique finds and a strong sense of community.

Following these guidelines, the popular travel and culture guide has unveiled this year’s lineup of 30 of the planet’s hippest streets, with Melbourne’s High Street in Australia seizing the crown.

Time Out raves about its “unique, something-for-everyone local businesses,” international cuisine, “natty” wine bars, and vintage stores, all infused with a welcoming community vibe.

Nabbing the 28th spot among the top 30 is Troon Street, nestled in Petralona, a central neighborhood in the Greek capital.

“Attracting a bohemian, community-minded mix of artists, designers, musicians and digital nomads, Petralona has become one of Athens’ most desirable residential neighborhoods over the past decade,” notes Time Out.

Stealing the spotlight in this popular corner of town is Troon Street, “boasting classic villas, retro apartment blocks and a new wave of architectural residential buildings, with friendly locals lolling between relaxed classic tavernas and easy-going bars.”

Meanwhile, Troon Street epitomizes Athens’ evolving energy, blending its “scruffy, old-world charm” with modern art scenes and culinary delights.

Time Out goes on to recommend Aster as the ideal place to enjoy a meal, blending “classic Cretan cooking with modern tapas,” and Rantevou, a traditional Greek all-day café (kafeneio), for its “retro vibes” and “good value small plates in the evening.”

For drinks, Paribaba and Botella both “buzz with the coffee/brunch crowd by day and cocktail lovers by night,” the article adds. It also recommends the bookshop-café Adad’s for “quirky zines and indie magazines,” and, best of all, to settle in for “an alfresco movie at one of Athens’ beloved outdoor cinemas, Zéphyros.”
