The Hellenic Statistical Authority (ELSTAT) has announced the results of a survey of museums and archaeological sites, which showed that between January and November 2015, there was a increase of 6.1% in the number of visitors to museums, compared to the same period in 2014.
During November 2015, museums around Greece recorded an increase of 4.9% in the number of visitors and a increase of 11.9% in their receipts, in comparison with the corresponding month of 2014.
 
In the 11 months prior to November of 2015, there was an increase of 6.1% in the number of visitors of museums and an increase of 5.7% in the respective receipts, in comparison with the corresponding period of 2014.
The number of visitors at archaeological sites for the period recorded an increase of 3.7% while the respective receipts recorded an increase of 2.6%, compared to the same period in 2014.
The largest increase in receipts for museums was noted on the island of Rhodes, showing an overall 42.5% increase. Among archaeological sites, the Acropolis of Lindos showed the largest increase in receipts within the 11-month period, showing an 85.6% increase compared to the same period in 2014. Free admission tickets to museums and archaeological sites across the country were up 36.1%.
The numbers reflect Greece’s record-breaking tourism year last year when some 25 million visitors visited the country.
