EasyJet recently cooperated with Greek airline Sky Express, to add the domestic flights of the latter to their “Worldwide by easyJet” service, making it easier for travelers to book trips directly to lesser-known destinations around the country.
In response to this news, The Telegraph presented a list of their favorite Greek destinations one can fly to. While popular tourist destinations like Mykonos, Santorini and Corfu all have airports, the list focused on places many tourists may have overlooked in the past. Featuring 9 islands and one mainland destination in northern Greece, each choice was presented with a short description, as well as travel information on getting there from the UK.

While some Brits may be familiar with options on the list such as Sitia, on Crete, Naxos, the largest of the Cycladic islands, Karpathos, which has grown as a tourist destination over the last few years, and Milos, the spectacular beaches of which has made it an Instagram star, few will have visited the smaller islands listed; Skyros, Ikaria, Astypalea, Leros, and Syros are popular with Greeks in the summer months, but the new cooperation between the airlines could potentially increase their visitor numbers from Britain and other countries.
This is also true for the one mainland destination on the list. The Telegraph says about Kastoria: “Built with cash earned from the region’s centuries-old trade in fur pelts, this city in the mainland region of Western Macedonia sits above a lake framed by pine-studded mountains and scattered with pelicans, swans and fisherman sculling their traditional plava flat-bottomed boats. Rustic tavernas serving hearty food abound here. Dishes to try include tzigerosarmades, made from rice, lamb mince and offal, and sarmadakia: parcels of cabbage leaves packed with spiced beef.”
