Swiss Tourists’ Top Greek Island Beaches Revealed

Famed for their enchanting beaches, Greece's islands remain a top choice for Swiss travelers seeking the perfect summer getaway. Discover which islands top the list.

The allure of Greece’s sun-drenched islands has long captured the hearts of travelers worldwide, and recent preferences of Swiss tourists highlight some of the most enchanting beach destinations.

A recent report by Switzerland’s largest newspaper, Blick, reveals which Greek islands top the list for their picturesque beaches, charming villages, and diverse activities, making them must-visit spots for Swiss sun-seekers.

According to Blick, Crete and Naxos emerge as standout destinations, with their iconic beaches Elafonisi and Plaka respectively captivating visitors. These islands are not just about stunning coastlines; they offer a blend of alternative activities and scenic villages that seamlessly integrate with the sandy shores. As the Athens News Agency-Macedonian Press Agency (ANA-MPA) notes, Ios, with its famed Mylopotas Beach, also ranks highly, promising unforgettable experiences for those seeking relaxation and adventure.

The list doesn’t stop there. Paros, Milos, Mykonos, and Corfu are also highlighted, showcasing Greece’s abundant options for those craving a slice of paradise.

Vangelis Katsaras, Deputy Mayor of Tourism for Naxos and the Small Cyclades, sheds light on the growing appeal of Naxos. He explains, “In recent years, our call has had a great response from markets in Europe and even further afield such as America and Australia, which seek quality in the Cyclades. Austria, Switzerland, and Germany are markets where special promotion has been made of the wide range of options that Naxos offers to families, couples, and activity enthusiasts. The season has started dynamically and a flow is expected both from Greece and abroad.”

Similarly, Antonis Mettos, President of the Committee of the Municipality of Ios, emphasizes the diverse attractions of his island: “Ios is a destination with different faces that escapes the spectrum of over-tourism. The entertainment and endless beaches are an experience for many Greeks and international travelers. At the same time, we have enriched our ‘product’ with new options such as trails, diving, cycling, gastronomy, culture, festivals, and sporting events. In Ios, the visitor flow expands before and after the summer months.”

Spoilt for Choice

The charm of these Greek islands lies in their ability to offer something for everyone. Whether it’s the tranquil beauty of Crete’s Elafonissi, the bustling activity options in Naxos, or the multifaceted experiences in Ios, Swiss travelers are spoilt for choice. These destinations not only promise stunning beaches but also provide enriching experiences that go beyond sunbathing.

As Swiss tourists continue to explore these Mediterranean gems, the bond between Greece and its visitors from the Alpine nation strengthens, creating a thriving tourism landscape that celebrates both natural beauty and cultural richness.
