Passenger arrivals at popular summer destinations in Greece this August was around 6 million more people than the same period in 2019, according to data gathered from 14 regional airports across the country.
The largest increase was recorded at Santorini airport, 39.8% higher that in 2019, with the total number of passengers exceeding half a million. An increase of 22.9% was recorded at Aktio airport in western Greece, while more than 822,000 passengers arrived at Hania airport on Crete, an increase of 20.2%.
 
Nevertheless, three regional airports recorded lower passenger numbers compared to August 2019. Arrivals at Mytilene, Kavala, and Thessaloniki airports were lower by 10.9%, 10.7% and 8.3% respectively. Thessaloniki, which is the second largest airport in the country, handled 753.2 thousand passengers last August, down from 821.4 thousand in the same month of 2019.
