New Tourism Campaign Invites Visitors to Enjoy the Thessaloniki Experience

If there's one thing that you must treat yourself to this summer, it's a trip to the beautiful northern Greek city of Thessaloniki.

The Thessaloniki Tourism Organization, with the cooperation of Discover Greece, has created seven short videos to attract international travelers to the northern city of Thessaloniki. The videos, including five 30-second snippets and two longer pieces, are targeted at an international audience, and showcase some of the unique experiences on offer in the city known to locals as i Simprotévousa, literally “the co-capital.”

Made with the assistance and support of the Municipality of Thessaloniki and the local Hotels Union, the videos offer, among other things, a brief tour of the city’s cultural highlights, including its spectacular Roman and Byzantine monuments, its long Jewish history, as well as modern attractions and contemporary art museums.

The city’s culinary landscape is also highlighted, as visitors are asked to “taste the passion in every bite of Thessaloniki.” From high-end gastronomic extravaganzas to delicious street treats such as bougatsa, a light crispy pastry filled with sugary cream, or slices of take-away pizza, the “Capital of northern Greece” has a smorgasbord of culinary experiences on offer, daring visitors to resist the fresh aromas wafting from the city’s restaurants, tavernas, and street vendors.

Other themes include local city life, the sweet flavors of the city, a closer look at some of its historical monuments, romantic walks along the Promenade, and strolls through the alleys of the Ano Poli (“Upper Town”).

The campaign will be rolled out virtually as part of the city’s tourist campaign for the summer and will be available on a number of media platforms and websites.
