Calilo, a 30-suite resort on the Greek island of Ios, is among 15 of the New York Times’ “New hotels to check out in 2018.”
Like the other hotels on the list that are notable for their attention to the environment, Calilo was picked out for its combination of luxury with eco-friendly features like solar power and geothermal cooling, as well as the use of locally-sourced building materials.

The beachfront resort on the island’s southeastern coast, owned by former Wall Street trader Angelos Michalopoulos, is expected to open next summer and will have nearly 10 kilometers of walking trails, an open-air cinema and an organic garden, according to the New York Times.
