Four years after the Mamma Mia sequel titled “Mamma Mia! Here we go again,” Colin Firth reigniting the hope of fans who have since been waiting for a third movie, saying he wouldn’t think twice about participating.
“I think it could happen. If you manage to make a second one, I guess you can make a third, a fourth, and a fifth. It was already a miracle,” Firth told “Good Morning America” host Lara Spencer on Thursday, and added: “And if people want it, I would do it just to see my friends again on some beautiful island.”

Set on the fictional Greek island Kalokairi, the Mamma Mia films boast a prominent cast featuring Meryl Streep in the role of Donna, a hotel owner who’s unsure about which one of her former lovers is the father of her daughter Sofie (Amanda Seyfried). Firth, Stellan Skarsgård and Pierce Brosnan play the roles of Donna’s three exes – the possible fathers. In the second movie, with Lily James playing the part of young Donna, the three men all declare themselves the grandfathers of Sofie’s child. Christine Baranski, Andy Garcia and Dominic Cooper also star in the films, and Cher makes an appearance in the sequel as well.

The first movie, which was shot in Greece, on Skopelos, Skiathos, and in Pilio, was directed by Phyllida Lloyd. The second film, shot in Croatia, was directed by Ol Parker.
About filming the movies, Firth revealed that indeed, it was as much fun as it looks in the movies: “Improbable as it is, yes. Because quite often it looks fun, but it isn’t. We’re actually at work, and it’s hard work to make a thing look fun. Not so much this time. We weren’t as drunk as we looked, but it was just the sheer joy of this group of people.” Also, the ABBA soundtrack is perfect to set a party mood: ” There’s something about ABBA. Whatever you think of them — whether you liked them back in the day… It links us all anyway because everybody knows it, so I think there’s a magic to that.”

The producer Judy Craymer has previously made similar statements in an interview with Vulture, saying there has always been an idea for a third movie: “I don’t think it would be as difficult to get everyone back together. I know I said that there probably will be one. I know. But it’s become such an important brand, and you just gotta get it right. There’s ideas and there’s thoughts, and ABBA has written more songs. I just have to get a move when I’m ready.”
