Bucking the trend that has charter companies from Scandinavian countries canceling their flights to Lesvos for this summer due to the migration crisis, Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia and the Danish travel agency Spies have persisted with the eastern Aegean island, starting their service for this summer season on Sunday, May 15.

The first flight is fully booked, Spies announced on Wednesday, as all 212 seats have already been sold.

“We are very happy about this. This summer we will send there 19 flights, for a total of 4,000 tourists to Lesvos, aware that we stand to lose much money. However we have been coming to this island for many years and we want to be on Lesvos both in the good and in the bad times,” said Torben Andersen, communication director at Spies and Thomas Cook Airlines Scandinavia.

“Our tourists love this island and wish to revisit it this summer,” he stressed.

Andersen added that 60 percent of seats up to July 1 have also been sold.
