The UK’s love affair with Greek yogurt shows no sign of stopping as exports of Greek yogurt increased 24.2% for January-November 2015 compared to the same period in 2014. This amounts to an estimated 28.76 million pounds in exports and ranks Greece second after France for yogurt exports.
Of the exports to the UK in 2011-2014, classic Greek white yogurt made up 90 percent. Other categories of yogurt products increased their market share from 5.4% in 2011 to 13% in 2014 and 16.3% in the January-November period in 2015. The value of exports increased from 721,000 pounds in 2011 to 4 million pounds in the January-November period of 2015.
 
FAGE Total, one of Greece’s largest and most popular dairy brand, saw sales increase by 26.2% to 49.7 million pounds. In November 2015, Kathimerini reported that exports accounted for 82.5 percent of the company’s total sales for the first nine months of 2015 compared to 76.5 for the same period in 2014. For the period in question, sales to the UK grew 32.9 percent in 2015, showing the continuing demand for Greek yogurt.
Overall, Greek natural yogurt shows a steady trend of increasing its market share in British supermarkets such as Tesco and Waitrose.
