Greece is David Cronenberg’s New Film Set for 30 Days

Media magazines report that the award-winning Canadian director and auteur will be traveling to Athens this summer to shoot his new film.

Award-winning Canadian filmmaker David Cronenberg is heading to Greece to shoot his latest film. Provisionally titled “Crimes of the Future,” Athens is one of number of locations across the country selected for the film.

It is the second time that Greece has been chosen as a destination by the science fiction master. In 2007 he shot “Fugitive Pieces” in Athens, Hydra and Mytilini (Lesbos).

According to film magazine Deadline, Cronenberg’s latest project will star Viggo Mortensen, Lea Seydoux and Kristian Stewart. The film marks Cronenberg’s return behind the camera after seven years, and bears the same title as his 1970 sci-fi film.

Shooting will take place mainly around Athens from August to early September. An article in Screen Daily mentions that potential shooting locations include the Iris Film Theatre in Exarcheia, the Arcade of Anatolia and the harbor of Piraeus. The Greek “Argonauts” production company will serve as co-producer and on-site production service company.

Cronenberg’s film and Johnson’s “Knives Out” sequel are two of several new productions that have chosen Greece as their setting this year.
