Cruise Ship Arrivals in 2022 Strengthen Local Economies

Greece's Minister of Tourism hails the impact of cruise tourism on local economies this year, as arrivals increase by 150% compared to 2021.

The success of Greek tourism this year is recorded not only in air arrivals but also in cruises. According to data from the Hellenic Ports Association, in the forecast for final results of cruise arrivals for 2022, there is an impressive increase of 150% compared to 2021 and by 25% compared to 2019, while the role of homeporting is particularly enhanced.

“With 5,000 cruise ship arrivals this year to the ports of Greece, the cruise industry is gaining strong momentum. The increase of 25% compared to 2019, concerns all cruise destinations. Thus, the tourist product is diffused throughout the country, strengthening local economies,” says the Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias in a post on his personal account.
