Cruise Ship Arrivals in Greece Surpass Pre-Pandemic Numbers

While some predicted the pandemic would be the end of cruise tourism, Greece is experiencing the opposite trend.

Greece is seeing a 25% increase in cruise arrivals this year compared to 2019, with a particularly high increase in number of ships homeporting in the country, according to the Hellenic Ports Association.

Their conclusion is based on the bookings that have already been made and the actual data; the first five months of the year saw close to 5000 arrivals. Compared to 2021, that represents an increase of almost 150%. The projected increase in arrivals refers to those at the country’s 15 most popular cruise ports.

Meanwhile, factors such as possible route changes and/or cancellations, as well as broader serious challenges facing the country, such as the impact of the war in Ukraine and the possible restrictions due to the pandemic, are also being taken into account.
