Andros: Greece’s Top Hiking Island for 2025

Andros, named Greece’s top hiking island for 2025 by Conde Nast Traveler, boasts diverse landscapes, scenic trails, cultural charm and stunning beaches.

Recently, Andros was named the best Greek island for hiking by Conde Nast Traveler, solidifying its reputation as a top destination for nature enthusiasts. This recognition highlights Andros’ diverse landscape, extensive network of hiking trails and year-round appeal.

Unlike many other Cycladic islands, Andros boasts a lush environment with green valleys and rushing streams, although it also has its share of rugged terrain common to the island group. Andros is home to Andros Routes, an award-winning network of well-marked hiking trails stretching over 300 kilometers. These routes connect picturesque villages, ancient monasteries, waterfalls and pristine beaches, making it an explorer’s dream. Whether you’re an experienced trekker or a casual walker, Andros offers a trail suited to your level, complete with breathtaking scenery along the way.

While Andros is well known for its hiking opportunities, the island offers much more to its visitors. Hora, the capital, has neoclassical mansions, marble-paved streets and a vibrant cultural scene. Art lovers can explore the Museum of Contemporary Art, which hosts exhibitions from renowned Greek and international artists.

The island has a rich maritime heritage; the Nautical Museum showcases Andros’ long-standing connection to the sea. Traditional villages such as Stenies, Menites, and Apikia offer glimpses into local rural life and come complete with stone-built houses, historic churches and traditional tavernas serving fresh, locally sourced cuisine.

No one should visit Andros without enjoying its stunning coastline. The island features a mix of sandy bays and secluded coves, perfect for relaxation after a long hike. Among the most famous beaches are Zorkos, Vitali and Tis Grias to Pidima, each offering crystal-clear waters and unique landscapes. For those seeking a laid-back shorefront experience, beach bars and seaside restaurants serve fresh seafood while providing breathtaking sunset views.

International Recognition and Tourism Growth

According to Nikos Moustakas, the Tourism Advisor for the Municipality of Andros, international media outlets are increasingly recognizing Andros’ authenticity and unique attractions. The island is garnering plenty of attention at international tourism fairs, including the ITB 2025 in Berlin, where Andros was showcased as a premier hiking and nature destination. European travelers, particularly those from Germany, France, Austria and Scandinavia, have shown growing interest in Andros as an alternative to the more commercialized Greek islands.

Whether you’re looking for adventure, culture or simply rest and tranquility, Andros offers options for every traveler. With its well-preserved hiking trails, charming villages and breathtaking beaches, the island will undoubtedly continue to be regarded as one of Greece’s most compelling travel destinations far beyond 2025.
