Anafi Prepares for Phenomenon 4 Events

With the concept of time as its key theme, the event will include readings, talks, performances, screenings and art exhibiotions.

Contemporary art in various forms will be celebrated in Anafi island from July 2-11 as part of Phenomenon 4, an art residency and an exhibition that will take place around the island, featuring numerous works such as a photographic installation by Moyra Davey, a series of paintings by Karolina Krasouli, and installations by Ian Kiaer, Daniel Steegmann Mangrané, Oriol Vilanova, and Marina Xenofontos.

Organized by the Phenomenon Association and the Kerenidis Pepe Collection, the event is themed on how Anafi’s life has shifted and altered since the 1980s until today and will also be exploring the concept of time.

“Time is not the same for all. In times of radical socio-political shifts and after a long period of stagnation, the linear conception of time needs to be questioned,” Phenomenon 4 organizers write. “By establishing another way of relating that foregrounds a shared experience of collaboration and coexistence, Phenomenon 4 invites us to reassess our relationship with time. In a remote place like Anafi, where time has a different pace, we are asked to reconsider our normative rhythms, to think and act differently.”

The program will also include film screenings by Éric Baudelaire and Moyra Davey, a lecture by Karen Barad, Professor of Feminist Studies, Philosophy, and History of Consciousness at the University of California at Santa Cruz, a reading by author Maggie Nelson and dance performances by Jimmy Robert and Oriol Vilanova.
