Greece ranks 3rd in the preferences of travelers from at least five Northern European countries, according to research findings by Accor, a global hospitality group, examining how post-Covid behavioral changes will affect, among other things, the way we travel.
Featuring on two lists presented based on the research, the top 10 European countries and the top 10 destinations in the world, Greece was the 28% most preferred country in Europe and the 18% most preferred country in the world to travel to in 2022. Only Italy and Spain scored higher, indicating that northern European travelers are valuing the combination of short flight times, warm climate, and beach access.

The research was based on a survey featuring 6,000 participants from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland and Russia, with questions regarding travel preferences and desires. The results were extremely positive, indicating that travelers value travel and vacation time more than ever. While the Omicron mutation did have an affect on travelers’ plans (the percentage of participants interested in a staycation doubled from 14% to 28% before and after it appeared), more than 80% of the participants still plan to travel in 2022.
Answers also showed that participants intend to spend an average of 39% more money on travel this year compared to how much they spent in 2019, and make an average of 4 trips this year.
