With the number of tourist arrivals surpassing 950,000 per week this July, numbers are expected to soar even higher during the peak month of August. Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias has said that after Athens and Thessaloniki, more tourist arrivals are expected especially in the southeastern Aegean islands and the Cyclades, Crete and Corfu.
In May, the hospitality industry in Greece made over half a billion euros, which is 26 million more than in May 2019 and turnover in the catering sector increased by 40 million euros, compared to the same period in 2019.

“These figures show, in practice, that the money from tourism goes directly to the real economy,” the minister said. “The response to the ‘Greece’ brand has been huge and positive, not only in our traditionally popular destinations but also in alternative destinations,” Kikilias added.
