Marriott International’s new boutique hotel brand, Moxy, catering to millennial globetrotters, is opening its latest branch in the Greek capital. Housed in the historic “Saroglion Megaron” on Stadiou Street in central Athens, where the city courts were once housed, Moxy Athens City is set to open its doors in March 2022.

It is the perfect location. A stone’s throw away in any direction, you’ll find some of the city’s best nightlife, including both bars and restaurants. The Moxy brand, in turn, is all about the harmony of stylish accommodation and an all-night bar. Stepping into the hotel, guests actually check in at the bar, which immediately presents them with an option: do you head to the room first, or stick around for a signature cocktail and some finger food?

The architecture of the exterior was curated by the people of Kokkinou Kourkoulas Architects and Associates, creating a design that’s industrial, in keeping with the brand, and also emphasizes the cultural heritage of the city. Inspired by the olive tree, the unique design also serves as a symbol of the hotel’s green philosophy. Moxy Athens City is the first hotel in Greece that will be certified according to the international certification system of sustainable development, LEED, at gold level.

The modern interior of the the rooms and in the common areas, designed by Divercity Architects & Carole Topin, meanwhile, is inspired by the myth of eternal youth, full of bright colors and trendy soft furnishings in contrast with raw natural materials. The lobby will function as a venue for parties, events and exhibitions, serving as a meeting point for people of art and fashion.

But the most fun and eccentric part of Moxy, perhaps, will be the penthouse, with its huge outdoor area. Overlooking Athens and the Acropolis, it will be available to book either as a suite or as a private entertainment venue. Like all the rooms, the design is warm yet smart and edgy, equipped with lightning-speed Wi-Fi and 55-inch full HD flat-screen TVs with screen casting ability and built-in USB ports.
