LOCATION
On Vassilissis Sofias Avenue, it represents a hub in the center, linking the up-scale district of Kolonaki with the hip Pangrati.
BACKGROUND
A favorite Athenian hub, the Athens Hilton is more than a hotel; it is an integral part of the city’s business, cultural and social life. Its historical importance, its cosmopolitan and its strategic location make it an ideal solution for those traveling to Athens on business or for pleasure. It was constructed between 1958 and 1963, and was the first sample of architectural prestige in post-war Athens, a herald of the economic, cultural and social progress that the country would undergo and its entrance in the global luxury tourism market. At the hotel’s official inauguration, the founder of the famous chain, Conrad Hilton, had said characteristically: “I agree with those that hold the Athens Hilton as the most beautiful Hilton in the world.”

The hotel’s monumental embossed artwork façade, created of the artist Yannis Moralis with archaic themes, constitutes a reference point for Athens to this day. Between the years 2001-2003, in view of the Olympic Games, the hotel underwent a minimalist intervention by architects Alexandros Tombazis and Harry Bougadellis, who aimed at restoring the building and adding a six-story wing overlooking Ventiri Street.
Throughout the years, numerous famous personalities have crossed the Athens Hilton threshold: Heads of state, famous artists and world-renowned scientists. From Aristotle Onassis and Frank Sinatra to Ingmar Bergman and Anthony Quinn, the Athens Hilton has always been a reference point for the international jet-set and still is.
