Atlantis Books: Santorini’s Literary Mecca

Atlantis Books is one of the most beautiful and renowned bookstores in the world

A small literary haven tucked into the basement of a traditional building in Oia overlooking the caldera, Atlantis Books was opened in 2004 by two young Americans, Oliver and Craig, who fell in love with Santorini and decided to pursue their crazy dream.

Considered among the most beautiful bookstores in the world, it is a “must-see” during your stay in Santorini, not only if you are in need of reading material – their eclectic collection is a pure treasure – but also if you want to meet other bookworms.

These days, Craig, the sole remaining owner of Atlantis Books, is facing the challenge of coming up with about a million euro, since the building owner was offered a bid to sell the bookstore and he asked Craig to counter-bid. We don’t know how things will turn out for this unique book lovers’ paradise, but we do know that Craig would like to keep it alive and maybe in the future create a guesthouse for artists and writers in Santorini.
