Summer Airline Routes Connecting Greece with USA, Middle East and Europe

Several budget and national air carriers have announced new summer routes linking Greek airports to European, American and Middle Eastern cities.

As summer approaches and the weather gets warmer, more and more airlines are announcing their plans for the season.

Greece is a major tourist destination, and the positive message that’s being conveyed in the news that the country is opening for international tourism on May 14 means that it is the perfect time for airlines to reveal the routes they will service.

Here are some of the new flight routes that will be active from May/June to October 2021:

airBaltic

The Latvia-based air carrier will be flying between Riga and Irakleio, Crete as of May 15, offering two flights a week. From June 5, airBaltic will begin weekly scheduled flights between the Latvian capital and the island of Santorini.

Air France

Air France has announced six new destinations for the summer. Flights are scheduled to depart Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport for Thessaloniki, Mykonos, Santorini, Irakleio (Crete), Corfu and Rhodes. What’s more, there will be six flights per day between Paris and Athens during the high season (mid-June through mid-September).

Blue Air

The Romanian airline is offering flights between Henri Coanda International Airport in Bucharest and a number of Greek destinations, starting on April 23 with three flights per week to Athens. As of May 1, there will be daily flights between the two capitals.

Twice-weekly flights to Irakleio, Mykonos, Rhodes and Zakynthos will start on April 27, 28 and 29, respectively. Starting from May 5, Blue Air will also operate an Athens-Bacau route.

Delta Air Lines

American Delta Air Lines returns to Athens, re-establishing three straight connections between Athens and John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York (JFK), and Hartsfield – Hare International Airport in Atlanta (ATL). The connection between Athens and New York will be inaugurated in May 28 with two daily flights, while with Atlanta on July 2 with one flight.

Qatar Airways

Qatar Airlways has scheduled direct daily flights between Doha and Mykonos, starting on May 14, the official opening day for international tourism in Greece.

Ryanair

In March, Ryanair announced its intention to operate three new hubs in Greece from July until October: on Corfu, Rhodes and at Hania on Crete.

Recently, the low-cost Irish carrier announced plans for flights to other Greek islands as well. With these new hubs, and with 218 routes connecting Greece with 19 other countries, this year’s flight schedule, which will run until the end of October, is the most ambitious one that Ryanair has prepared for Greece’s summer season.

United Airlines

The US airline will be expanding its service to Athens with daily flights between July 1 and October 3 for those who have tested negative for COVID-19 and those who have been vaccinated. These will the first non-stop daily flights to operate between Washington DC and the Greek capital.

In addition, the airline will continue to offer flights between Newark International Airport, Nee Jersey, and Eleftherios Venizelos Airport in Athens.

Wizz Air

The low-cost Hungarian airline is offering flights to seven Greek destinations during the summer period. Wizz Air will fly to Santorini from 18 European airports and to Irakleio on Crete from 14 European airports.

They will also fly to Athens, Thessaloniki, Zakynthos, Corfu, Mykonos, Rhodes and Preveza-Aktio from cities across Europe as well as from Israel and the United Arab Emirates.
