Aegean Airlines Restarting International Flights to Thessaloniki

As of June 15, Aegean Airlines will once again be flying certain international routes to and from Thessaloniki Airport.

As Greece slowly and surely opens up to tourism again, Greek company Aegean Airlines has announced the relaunch of international flights to and from Thessaloniki Airport “Makedonia” starting June 15, with the aim of addressing northern Greece’s needs in this difficult time.

The flights will start operating to and from major international destinations; countries that have been selected based on their Covid-19 epidemiological profile.

The first Aegean Airlines flights to operate at Thessaloniki Airport will be to and from the cities of Munich, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Stuttgart and Larnaca. Flights will begin between June 15-17 and will operate at a rate of 2-4 times per week for the June-July period. During high season, which begins in August, the flight rate is expected to increase to 2-8 per week.

Flight frequencies will be subject to public response and booking dynamics, and will depend upon whether authorities have given the green light on travels to and from a specific country based on its epidemiological profile.

Direct flights between Tel-Aviv and Thessaloniki are expected to resume once the restrictions on entrance to Israel are lifted – official announcements are expected soon from both countries’ governments.

Overall, there are 20 direct flights departing from Thessaloniki Airport – including the domestic flights that have already started operating and are expected to increase in June, with destinations including Rhodes, Samos, Chios and Kalamata.

Readers should note that changes in the Covid-19 related measures imposed by relevant authorities may lead to flight schedule changes with little notice. In light of this Aegean is offering passengers increased flexibility regarding new ticket purchases or modification of existing reservations.
