The judging for the third Athena Olive Oil Competition is to take place in Delphi on the 26th-28th of March. Twenty high profile judges from twelve countries will rank their favorite products from the participants, who are hoping to be awarded with a bronze, silver, gold, or double gold medal. Extra virgin olive oil (including flavored and infused EVOO) producers from all over the world are eligible to enter.
The award ceremony is to take place later in the year.
Last year, 58% of the 175 medals awarded went to non-Greek producers, and the TreFórt olive oil, produced by Paolo Bonomelli of Veneto, Italy, was named the “Best of the Show”.
The Greek olive oil that ranked highest, and was awarded a double gold medal, was the 39/22 Koroneiki olive oil from Argolis, produced by Great Stories. The competition moves every year, with the awards taking place in various EVOO producing regions in Greece. This year in Delphi, over 300 producers are expected to enter the competition.
There are still a few days left to register for competitors. To enter, producers need to send samples of their products to the event organizers. Find all the instructions on the competition website.
Correction: An earlier version of this article stated that the award ceremony will be taking place on the 26th-28th of March. It is the judging that will be taking place over that period.
