Tuesday June 20, 2017 will mark exactly 8 years to the day since the Acropolis Museum first opened its doors to the public. To celebrate, from 8pm onwards entry to the museum will be free. The exhibition areas and restaurant will be open from the morning until midnight.

A film will also be screened about recent findings from the caves around the Acropolis, sites that were first inhabited in prehistoric times, and developed into important places of worship in antiquity.

Afterwards at 9pm, the Orchestra of the Center of Arts & Culture of Dion will perform favorite Greek songs in the Museum’s entrance courtyard. The performance will be led by the conductor Nikos Patris. Soloists will be Vassilis Lekkas, Alexandra Gravas, Babis Velissarios and Filio Servou.

After opening in 2009 following many years of planning, the Acropolis Museum rapidly went on to become a local favorite and must-see stop for tourists in Athens, drawing international praise and awards. To date, 11 million visitors have passed through its doors and enjoyed its exhibits that offer a fascinating look at the evolution of the Sacred Rock and ancient Athenian culture.
