5 + 1 Places to Stay in Syros

Gorgeous mansions, many of them listed, where guests can enjoy a charming stay while on the island

This boutique hotel, offering seven rooms, is literally built on seaside rocks. The windows of its aristocratic suite gaze out over views of the sea. Its terrace, hanging over the water, is a majestic place to enjoy your coffee or cocktails enjoying the view of Tinos and Mykonos.

The interior features tasteful furniture, rare handmade rugs, original art pieces by contemporary Greek artists, authentic Venetian light fixtures, ceiling paintings, select dishware and cutlery, as well as luxury marble-surfaced bathrooms, some of which include steam baths and Jacuzzis. The listed 19th century mansion which is home to the hotel is commonly known as Spiti tou Samiou. It stands out as it strongly reflects traditional neoclassical nobility and modern aesthetics. This building, which was converted into a boutique hotel in 1996, once served as the residence of Andreas Kriaras, president of the chancellery that declared the uprising against Ottoman rule in Crete in 1821. Otto of Greece, the first king of the modern Greek state, was also once a guest, and it is also speculated that early 20th century statesman Eleftherios Venizelos, who served several terms as Greek prime minister, may also have passed through the doors.
