Wines from around the world will be showcased at the 16th Thessaloniki International Wine Competition which will take place at the end of the month, along with the 2nd Thessaloniki International Spirituous Beverages of Vitivinicultural Origin Competition.
The annual event will be held on February 24-26, the Wine Producers Association of the Northern Greece Vineyard has announced.
 
The competition is the only one of its kind organized in Greece under the auspices of the International Organization of Wine and Vine (O.I.V). This year’s competition is organized in collaboration with TIF= HELEXPO, within the framework of the Detrop Boutique International Exhibition of Food and Beverages, and will be hosted at the Ioannis Vellidis Congress Center.
The Thessaloniki International Wine and Spirits Competition is an internationally recognized event where wines from across the world are sampled and judged by distinguished Greek and foreign wine tasters. The awards given carry international prestige while the competition also serves to showcase Greek wines to an international audience of professionals and members of the public.
The final deadline for wineries to submit samples is February 12. The results will be announced at an awards ceremony held in Athens. Five wines will be chosen to compete in each of nine separate categories.
The public will be able to sample the wines and spirits that win top status in their categories at the Detrop Boutique wine exhibition in Thessaloniki on February 26-29 and the Oenorama wine exhibition in Athens on March 5-7.
