The Greek Paralympic team is approaching the end of Rio 2016 on a high, with an impressive haul of 13 medals. This includes five gold, four silver and four bronze and more than doubles the count of six medals won by the Greek team at the Rio 2016 Olympics.
Medals were won in a number of disciplines, including javelin, shot put, swimming, fencing, boccia and powerlifting.
 
The team broke two world records in the process. Michail Seitis broke the world record in the men’s 400 meters with a time of 49.81 seconds while in the men’s shot put F32 Athanasiou Konstantinidis broke the world record three times during his tries.
Greece made its debut at the Toronto 1976 Paralympic Games, and in total has won 80 medals at the Paralympics so far – 14 gold, 33 silver and 33 bronze.
The Games ended on Sunday September 18 2016, after which the team of 59 athletes from Greece will return to a warm welcome.
