The island of Karpathos is one of the best budget-friendly destinations to travel to in 2018 according to Forbes.com.
Featured alongside another 32 destinations across the world from Australia to Zanzibar, the Greek island located in the southeastern Aegean was nominated to the list by Elizabeth Avery of Solo Trekker 4 U, a website promising ‘Top Quality at Lower Prices’.

The article notes how Karpathos offers everything one could want from a Greek island: lounging on clean, white sand beaches; a wide range of water sports; ancient sites and archaeological museums – but with more budget-friendly options for accommodation and dining out than more famous islands such as Mykonos and Santorini.
“Karpathos has many apartments and studios to rent, resulting in real savings. There are plenty of budget hotels under $100. Multiple restaurants and tavernas dot the countryside, where you can savor traditional Greek dishes at low prices,” the author, Laura Begley Bloom writes.
With a number of traditional villages to explore – most notably the remote Olympos where many of the elderly residents continue to wear traditional dress in their daily lives – the island also offers authentic island experiences off the beaten tourist trail.
